If Christianity offers believers hope, freedom, and victory over darkness, why are Christians depressed? This book explores this question using the author's experiences with depression both as a non-believer and later as a Christian. Self-harm, suicidal behavior, and alcohol typified his non-Christian life until an encounter with Christ healed him from depression and delivered him from his self-destructive lifestyle. Unfortunately, the depression returned within a few years of becoming a Christian. He looked to the church for help but found none. This led him on a spiritual journey with God to find healing from depression. Join him as he unmasks the problem of depression in the church and explains how the church can lead sufferers to wholeness. He also shares his own struggles and describes how he found freedom from depression through Christ.
Robert D. McBain is pursuing a PhD in theology at Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, where he graduated with his DMin. Previously a quality engineer in the oil and gas industry, he now serves as Dean’s Fellow in ORU’s College of Theology and Ministry and review editor of
Spiritus: Journal of Theology.

"Depression, Where Is Your Sting? is exemplary, research-informed, and empowered by the Holy Spirit: it tackles immediate and everyday challenges, the author's personal journey as a crucial resource for theologization, and the Spirit's central role in restoration. The book speaks volumes in the pandemic era and shows everyone the Spirit-empowered way of reflection to empower others."
"In his most recent book, Depression, Where Is Your Sting? author Dr. Robert McBain takes an honest look at the painful and overwhelming realities of depression through the lens of God's everlasting word. Within the community of faith, depression is all too often talked about in hushed tones, leaving the man or woman of God feeling alone and embarrassed for feeling the way they feel. Through honest personal accounts and powerful biblical revelation, McBain walks the reader through a restoration process that reinforces the hope and joy we have in Christ!"
"Often referred to as the common cold of mental health disorders, depression is pervasive and no respecter of persons, affecting believers and nonbelievers alike. In a personal style, informed by solid research and personal experience, Dr. McBain shares his own story and discusses how the church can play a vital role in helping those suffering with this affliction find acceptance and support. I believe his valuable insight and practical guidance will provide hope and help to many. I highly recommend this book both for those who struggle with depression and those who care for them, especially ministry leaders who want to create welcoming and healing contexts where all the dimensions of life are addressed."
